Riley was first diagnosed with cancer when he was 4 years old. After beating cancer and a year of remission, the cancer came back. Once again, Riley fought and beat cancer. Riley is 9 now and the cancer is back for the third time. Each time Riley has cancer, it can take up to a year and a half to go through all of his treatments. That includes chemotherapy, radiation, and then immune therapy (to rebuild his immune system). This prolonged treatment process creates a significant hardship for the Rejniak family.
Riley requires frequent hospital visits, often for several days at a time. While Insurance does pay for those treatments, it does not pay for gas, wear and tear on family vehicles, hotel rooms, or even basic living needs. Understandably Riley's parents can't leave him in the hospital by himself and are forced to miss work often, which can make it difficult to make ends meet.
